OBJECTIVES
& DECISION
Who is in charge?
I decide, not him
The columnist Sydney Harris tells a story in which he
was accompanied by a friend to the newsstand. His friend greeted
the newsagent kindly, but as an answer he received a rude and rough
treatment. Catching the newspaper that was thrown in his direction,
Harris' friend smiled politely and wished a good weekend to the
newsagent. When both friends went down by the street, the columnist
asked:
"Does he always treat you with so much
rudeness?"
"Yes, unhappily he always does..."
"And are you always so polite and friendly with
him?"
"Yes, I am".
"Why are you so educated, since he is so
unfriendly with you?"
"Because I don't want him to determine how I am
going to act."
