NEW PARADIGMS
If they believe me...
The power of talking
The Physics Department of San Jose State University
was proud to have a class of Physics for rookies so difficult that
usually 50% of the students are reproved or give up.
In one semester, a teacher decided to do an
experiment. In the first of two identical classes, he affirmed during
his opening lecture that 50% of the students would be reproved or would
give up. In your second class, he affirmed that the reproof normal rate
was 50%, but, when examining the historical of the students, he was
surprised to see that everyone in this class had an exceptional ability
in mathematical and science.
You probably can guess the results. In the first
class, 50% of the students gave up or were reproved. In the second
class, all students passed with C grade or superior.
The point that interests in this history is just that
the perceptions actually become reality.
