MEMORIZATION
Are you forgetting something?
A simple method to remember what to take with
you before leaving
My son was doing that last check before
traveling, and he had that feeling that he was forgetting something. I
provoked him with a simple but effective method for these
situations:
- Imagine a scenario where you will be. A beach? Ok, what do
you need on a beach? Are your eyes protected?
- Oops, where are my sunglasses?
Another try.
- On the beach, you are going to swim and dive. Are you
taking the diving glasses with you?
- Oops, no. May I take yours?
This happened in less than 30 seconds. In general, the
method consists of:
1 - Imagine a scenario on the destiny.
2 - Look for an important or relevant thing on that
scenario.
3 - Check if the item is packed or if you are taking it with
you.
Of course there is a certain degree of uncertainty in this
method, like
everything related to the future: a scenario or object might pass unnoticed. To reduce uncertainty and deal with the risk
of forgetting something important, an option is to exercise this little method
not just before leaving, but along a few days after the trip, event or whatever,
eventually repeating the search for some scenario or part of it. Well, you can
also make a checklist to preserve previous results for other opportunities.
But if some uncertainty still remains, maybe you should
consider that you really don't want the trip to be completely predictable!
