MEMORIZATION
Two techniques to activate names
The information is there, all we need is a
way to find it
I entered the taxi telling the person that was with
me describing a technique to remember names I had learned. Before I finish,
the driver surprisingly interrupted the conversation, telling,
emphatically, that he had applied the technique and remembered a name
that for a long time he tried to!
There are strategies to memorize information so to
facilitate its retrieval, but even without this it is possible to
activate memories by means of a appropriate strategy. To remember names,
I know two:
1)
Remember some facts about the person whose name you want to remember.
What do you know about her? What experiences have you lived with her?
2) Keep saying the letters of the
alphabet, in order,
making a pause in each one: A…B…C…
In both cases, you don’t need to try to remember, to
execute the procedure should be enough. Simply take some time on
executing one, other or both, and wait for the internal response.
The last time, in a restaurant, I combined both steps
to remind the name of the kind waiter. I reminded some other times I
went to the place and went through the letters:
A...B...C...D...E...F...G...Gonzaga!
