CREATIVITY

Seek the different

Train your brain to be creative

There are advantages in repeating some behaviors; we learn, we create good habits. And will there be any advantage in doing some things in a different way?

Edward de Bono, in the book Serious Creativity, said that the brain tends to repeat paths many times followed. Thence he created the several lateral thinking techniques, whose goal is to seek for new ways to ideas (the random stimulus technique, for example). The fact is just that it can be also very entertaining. Try for example to dress pants starting with the other leg; it might be a very eccentric sensation (at least at the beginning). Look how awkward it is to brush your teeth or to comb your hair with the other hand! Worse, take a bath in the dark!

Cultivate the habit of doing small things in different ways, besides costing nothing but a period to get acquainted, is going to make your brain learn a new pattern and direct itself to generate regularly different and new ideas and possibilities. This is one of the key skills regarding creativity.
